EBCC v StAlbans/ Breakwater

20/20 Match.

Round 1 saw the EBCC U/17's take on last years runners-up St Albans/Breakwater at Breakwater Reserve. Both teams have changed significantly in their make-up since last years grand final so it was unknown what to expect from what we knew was a good side last year. EBCC lost the toss and was thrown into the field. Keeping it tight early Tom Stewart and Tom Elkington kept the opposition to 1 for 29 after the completion of 8 overs. In a strong position at the halfway point of the innings some strong hitting in their middle order pushed their score towards 100 from the alloted 20 overs, however good bowling and safe hands managed to minimise the damage and St Albans/ Breakwater finished their innings 4/90 off 20 overs. Single wickets to Tom Stewart, Zac Jennings and Jimmy McMahon supported by a fantastic run out from Tom Stewart was the breakdown of the dismissals.

After a quick break it was EBCC's turn to put the pads on, opening with Jimmy McMahon and Wicketkeeper/ batsman Jacob Fox. These 2 boys did a fantastic job at playing themselves in and taking the opportunity to capatilise on some poor deliveries. With the scoreboard ticking over nicely as a result of some fantastic stroke play and excellent running EBCC lost their first wicket, Jacob Fox (24), in the 10th over with the score at 57. This loss didn't deter Jimmy from continuing to make the most of good conditions racing to 40 retired including 4 sixes. Becker Nguyen (21 no) and Matt Egan (2 no) did a great job getting the job done and giving EBCC it's first points of the season.

It was fantastic to get early points lads, and i have no doubt that we will have more success this season providing we get to training and continuely work on our bowling, batting and fielding. We saw 13 extras bowled on Saturday, mostly off-side wides, so now that we have removed the winter cob-webs, its business time. A thank-you to St Albans/Breakwater CC for the sausage sizzle they put on during the innings change-over, both players and coaches enjoyed the fantastic show of hospitality.

A reminder that training starts at 4 O'CLOCK from this week onwards, be there ready to go as im sure Grovedale at home this upcoming Saturday will be a fantastic, tough contest.

Go Lions,
