Welcome everyone to the start of a new season of cricket.
Before anything else, please read the following message from your coach, Gerry.

Our training kicked off earlier than normal, a month ago on 8th Sept. Extremely good numbers attended on our Monday and Wednesday training sessions. After shaking a little rust off, the boys worked hard in the nets, not only on their strengths, but trying to improve on their weaknesses. It's great to see new inclusions from last years U/13 PREMIERSHIP team, which include Alex Brittain, Sam Lowe, Ryan Stark, Stephen Topouzakis, and Keegan Doherty, coupled with Michael Crossett, Jack Ryan, Mitch McDonald, Jake Hickey, Mitch Thomas, Mick Wakefield, also the return of U/13 2006 premiership player, David Sanzaro. I would also like to mention that it is fantastic to have the support of a core group of dads on training nights to lend a hand.

Gerry.

Thanks should go to Gerry who was prepared to give his time so early before the first game so the kids who wanted to start training early could hone their skills and start the season 'ready to play'. The result of Rd 1 and how the players performed is testament to the early start. Thanks again Gerry.

ROUND 1
20/20 format
East Belmont 8 for 115 def Marshall 6 for 76

WOW!!! What a start, on a glorious sunny morning at Winter Reserve, the first ball of the 2008/09 season was smacked to the mid wicket boundary for 4 from the bat of opening batsman in Jack Ryan. Jack, with fellow opener Mitch McDonald put on 22 well controlled runs before Mitch was unfortunately run out in the 5th over. Two more wickets fell cheaply, and at 3/28 (7 overs), the game was in the balance. But in strode Mick Wakefield who played superbly for a hard hitting 30 (ret) including 5 fours, which set up the final score of 8/115.

Marshall began their chase facing our opening bowlers in Jack Ryan and Mitch Thomas. After surviving Jacks first over, Mitch struck with his first ball of season, giving Michael Crossett a catch behind. Mitch finished with the great figures of 2 for 0 from 2 overs. The rest of the bowlers bowled tightly, and gave away very few "free" deliveries, 9 wides/no balls in total (compared to Marshalls 22). Mick, Ryan and Mitch Mc also got a wicket each. Marshall completed their 20 overs with a score of 6/76.

Next week we play South Barwon at Oberon High School.
