Under 13 East Belmont vs Marshall 8th Feb 2008
We once again found ourselves playing Marshall at Marshall for the third time this year with the results in our previous encounters being one all, so a close game was expected.
East bowled first and ALL bowlers bowled really well with only 10 balls not hitting the pitch, a great improvement, well done boys. With this good bowling, Marshall were restricted to 73 runs.
The highlights of this innings were-
- Starky's catch, an absolute blinder taken low down at deep square leg.
- George being on a hat trick (both wickets being bowled),
- Off the last ball of the innings, with Nigel bowling, the batsman hit the ball straight and hard along the ground and took off for a run only to see Nigel throw out his boot to stop the ball which allowed Hayden to come in and pick up the ball for a run out.
Chasing 73 was never going to be easy as Marshall are a very good all round team. We were soon in trouble, with our batsmen taking on the Marshall fielders with their running between wickets (I must say Marshalls ground fielding and throwing was of a high standard), and at 5 for 15 things were looking tough.
However with plenty of overs to go, our batsmen were able to 'steady the ship' and in the end come away with a victory. Batsmen who got to double figures were Keegan 13no, Cody 15, Sam 10 and Alex 20no.
Round 12 - Feb 15 - Vs Leopold. This game will be played at HOME at Winters Reserve No 2. Remember to be there AT LEAST 20 minutes BEFORE starting time ie 4:40PM.
